In-depth analysis of the T2S platform
News The Executive Board took a orientation decision in 2021 to use the T2S platform for the settlement of securities in Swedish kronor in the future. At the same time, it was decided that an in-depth analysis of the platform would be carried out before deciding whether to start contract negotiations. The in-depth analysis has been summarised in this Riksbank study. The conclusion is that the 2021 orientation decision remains unchanged.
The Riksbank and the Swedish market agree that moving to the T2 and T2S platforms in parallel is not beneficial, mainly due to resource challenges. The market favours a transition to the T2 platform over the T2S platform. As a transition to the T2 platform takes around five years, this means that a transition to the T2S platform can only start around 2030 and be completed only in the mid-2030s. The assessment is that it is not appropriate to decide now on a transition that can only start in about five years. The decision to use the T2S platform should be taken closer to the date when a migration can start.
